Christmas Tree Ornament Craft

20121123-ChristmasOrnament-4

Dada did this craft with his Mamu when he was a young, young boy. He never forgot how much fun it was to make ornaments with his Mamu. Today he did it with me. Dada says that the ornaments are now made of plastic--like the tree--but it works just about the same.

What you need:

1. A bucket.
2. Various spray paint.
3. Water.
4. Pliers or something to grab the ornaments.
5. Plain globe ornaments from the 100 yen shop or the home center. The rough, non-shiny ones work the best.
6. Some way to hang the ornaments to let them dry.
7. Wire to hang the ornaments.
8. Newspaper
9. A drain net.
10. Clear coat spray.

Directions:

Fill the bucket halfway with water. Spray the paint on top of the water. Holding the ornament with the pliers slowly dip the ornament into the water and skim the paint onto it. Hang the ornament to dry, spray some more paint onto the water and repeat. When finished pour the water through a drain net to collect all the left over paint. After the ornaments dry the paint will flake off very easily if you don't spray it with a clear coat.

Dada used his bike and scooter to make a line to dry the ornaments on.

Remember to shake your paint!
Thank you Mom for all the great Christmas memories! I'm having fun doing the same things with Mia.

  1. awwwwwwwwwww, this looks like you and Mia had a great time. I loved doing this with you all.
The trick is cleaning the water with a paper towel for paint build up and not spraying too much paint.
The last photo is so sweet !

    cheers, mumzilla
