Family Hot Spring!

I'm not amused.

 Before we were married, before we had Mia... Yuko and I loved to go to hot springs. Now that we have the baby it's hard for us to go because someone has to be with her all the time. Going to a normal super-sento bathhouse would become a logistical headache. Thankfully there are things called kazokuburo (家族風呂) where a family can bathe together in an room separate from the larger public baths. In Hyogo where the laws governing these things are rather strict, you have to be a same-sex group, a married couple (with proof of marriage), or a single person to use these private baths. In fact there are only two that I know of in the prefecture. We went to Yokatan in Miki. It's about a 45 minute drive from our apartment. There are 3 different kazokuburo available. We got the one with an indoor and outdoor bath. The outdoor bath is filled with Yokatan's great spring water straight from the well (掛け流し). It's a great way to spend a relaxing evening with the family.

• One thing to note. The spring water at Yokatan is very rich in carbon dioxide. While the heated baths are on effected by this, the straight spring water baths are not good for bathing for more than 5 minutes at a time.
